There’s something incredibly powerful about personal testimonies and appeals for action. Which is why we asked the Stand.earth community a few weeks ago to record personal messages for RBC’s CEO, David McKay, asking him to start taking the climate emergency seriously.
David McKay has said that “climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our times.”[1] But his bank continues to prop up oil, gas, and coal companies that are directly contributing to the unfolding climate emergency – including fueling the fires devastating communities across the country.
Despite growing public pressure, RBC has so far refused to take any meaningful actions to mitigate the devastating climate impacts of its investments. That is why we need to flood Mr. McKay’s inbox with an appeal to watch the powerful videos from concerned community members, many of whom are RBC’s customers.
We’re not stopping there. In the next few days, we’re also launching a national ad campaign targeting RBC employees and customers, reminding them that RBC is the biggest financier of fossil fuel companies in Canada.
A company with 17 million customers may think it’s invincible, but at Stand.earth, we know that even the largest companies can be moved to do the right thing. If we stop the flow of money from RBC to the world’s dirtiest and most dangerous companies, we can stop the expansion of fossil fuel projects. Every single voice in our community of more than half a million members matters – together we can achieve the meaningful systemic change that’s needed to mitigate the unfolding climate emergency.
Can you send an email to RBC’s CEO and urge him to watch the personal testimonies and to leverage his power to stop RBC’s reckless financing of fossil fuels?
With gratitude,
Richard Brooks
Climate Finance Director
